The Bee Services Sustainability Plan 2025 sets out what we are doing to manage our environmental and social impacts. A key priority on our road map is to kickstart our decarbonisation. We are now working with our sustainability consultancy Wylde Connections to gather the data we need to measure our baseline greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Calculating emissions marks a critical step towards developing a robust carbon reduction strategy and ensuring we support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Businesses are under increasing scrutiny from regulators, clients, and other stakeholders to reduce their environmental footprint. We are committed to securing better social and environmental outcomes and at the same time understand that doing so will make Bee Services a more resilient and competitive business.
Establishing baseline emissions refers to a calculation of total greenhouse gas emissions over a 12 month period that acts as a reference point for future reductions. The process marks a major milestone on our sustainability journey. It will provide us with the insight we need to prioritise interventions and meet our sustainability objectives.
We will work with the team at Wylde to gather data across all three scopes identified by the
Greenhouse Gas Protocol:
Scope 1: Direct emissions from sources we own or control, such as fuel burned in company vehicles.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of electricity or energy that we purchase and use.
Scope 3: All other indirect emissions that occur throughout our value chain. This includes those linked to the goods we purchase, the waste we generate, employee commuting, and outsourced services.
By committing to measure all three scopes, we are setting out our stall to gain as comprehensive a picture as possible of our environmental performance.
Robust process
The first step in establishing our baseline involves data collection. Our expert consultant will help us identify appropriate data sources for emissions calculations. These will include information on energy consumption, fuel usage, waste generation, and other relevant activities. We can access this data from own internal systems and by consulting with our supply chain.
This will be inputted into carbon calculator Control+Alt+Delete. The platform provides detailed insights that help identify hotspots, track year-on-year progress, and support evidence-based decision-making. Our consultant will verify our data and support us in using it to identify major emission sources. That will inform our action plan, help us set decarbonisation targets and form the basis of a comprehensive carbon reduction strategy.
Over the ensuing years we will continue improving the quality and quantity of the data we collect as part of our commitment to continual improvement. We will regularly review and update our strategies to reflect best practice and demonstrate to the wider facilities sector the value of putting sustainability at the heart of decision making.
We will update our sustainability report later this year to include our 2024/2025 baseline emissions data. In the meantime, Bee Services will keep working to not only manage our own impacts but help our clients make more responsible choices.
