At Bee Services we are committed to supporting the triple bottom line of people, profit and planet. The facilities management sector is under increased pressure to support the drive to net zero and boost its ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) credentials. Every business has a responsibility to minimise its negative impacts and embrace sustainable practice. We are keen to support customers in playing their part in securing a better future for all.
We are working with our consultants to develop a robust sustainability strategy. Be it identifying our key stakeholders, conducting a materiality assessment or developing a detailed action plan and road map, the process is helping us reap the benefits of becoming an ethical and responsible business.
As part of developing a sustainability strategy, Bee Services is working hard to minimise negative impacts and play our part in the fight against climate change. We are in the process of calculating our baseline GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions before setting out a carbon reduction plan. We will take every opportunity to work with internal stakeholders together with our wider supply chain to drive positive change.
Part of that work involves using our comprehensive service offer to allow our clients to make more sustainable choices. We have already developed a waste management service which helps reduce emissions, combat pollution and keep more resources in the value chain.
We have teamed up with contractor First Mile to provide Zero to Landfill waste management. Clients who dispose of waste in First Mile bins can rest assured that it will be recycled or taken to a to-energy facility to provide households with green renewable power.
People are our most important stakeholder. Bee Services values and respects all staff and understands that they hold the key to our success. All of our staff are on permanent contracts, and we pride ourselves on high levels of retention.
We invest time, effort and training in our people to ensure they have the skills they need to excel. They consistently exceed expectations and deserve to be fairly remunerated. In April 2023, Bee Services made a pledge to encourage all our clients to embrace The London Living Wage. This forms an important part of our sustainability strategy and what makes us stand out from the crowd.
The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate based on the cost of living. It is voluntarily paid by more than 14,000 businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets their everyday needs. It is applicable to all workers over 18 and has been independently calculated by the esteemed Resolution Foundation.
We encourage all our clients to pay the UK Living Wage or London Living Wage depending on where they are based. To date, around 65% of our employees are paid theses rates. We are determined to have an ongoing dialogue with businesses about the need to commit to fair rates of pay and will keep working to drive this figure up.
Bee Services is also committed to supporting communities through a range of charities and organisations. As well as making donations, from April 2023 we will be launching a programme of volunteer days for office and volunteer staff. This will be rolled out to all employees within the following 12 months.
